It saddens me to read a dozen Naruto blog posts everyday. Granted, 90% of these games never see release due to the games' "creators" being a little inexperienced and just wanting to create something.

Anime is really just a dead end. There's no sort of creativity you can implement into these games. You have to follow the anime/manga else your players will abandon you and run to the next of the 20+ Naruto games already on BYOND.

What if BYOND were to limit the amount of games created for each anime? If there were 20+ chess games on BYOND, would we allow this as a community? Or would we look at them and say "Okay, these five are the better ones, the rest we can do without."

I'm really just kinda thinking with my keyboard here, but I don't really think we need a million games designed around the same concept.

I'm just wondering if anyone else is having the same thought here. I want to know what Tom's thoughts on the subject is. I want to know what everyone's thoughts on the subject is.

I've seen over the past couple of months at least 2-3 dozen blog posts about original game developments. Where are these games?
Eh, I don't think limiting would do any good. I think anime games got a bad enough bruise as it is. Being pretty much throw in the back of the bus, somewhat hidden by BYOND. Though I agree with you on one point, I, too, think that we don't need a bunch of games designed around the same concept.
Build Your Own Net Dream
I honestly think BYOND should tighten up on fan games as far as quality goes.

Too many of the fan games are terrible and 70% of the Pokemon games are still edited rips.
The good thing about not limiting is that you get to see different perspectives and artistic ideas people have of anime... The rips are just plain annoying and should be instantly deleted unless otherwise given permission by original owner.
They shouldn't limit you to create a certain type of game. It's Build Your Own Net Dream.

Good games take time to make.
I don't like the massive amounts of rips, but this place was made for you to make your own dream game. As such, we have no right to deny them of that. The most they can do is what they have, by hiding the massive amounts of rips.
There wouldn't be a problem with having 20 games based on the same series if the games represented a variety of genres. The problem with anime games is that game design is almost always ignored, so most of the games end up being generic RPGs and the limit on generic RPGs should be zero.

There are lots of ways to make fun anime-themed games, people just aren't trying. They're just not focusing on the "game" part of things. They're not applying the theme to an existing game idea, they're letting the theme dictate the game (and very literally too). It'd be like saying that a game where the main character is a plumber must only be about plumbing, so you create toilets, plungers, and a "plunge" verb and call it a game. If you design a game and use the plumber character as part of the theme, you could create a very fun game. The anime theme lends itself to lots of things - games like Street Fighter, Double Dragon, even Mario Cart. But people almost always take the generic RPG route.

No part of "build your own net dream" implies that the BYOND website will waste bandwidth promoting and hosting the garbage that some people might make. Whenever BYOND gets to the point that real quality control can be enforced, these types of anime games will disappear and so will these issues.
No.
I like the way Forum_account views my concept.

Also, what type of build your own net dream applies using someone else's ideas, such as anime? I'm not saying remove all of them. I'm saying if we are going to allow them to continue to stay here, then we should start removing the ones that, with lack of a better word, suck anyway. This would make the developers of fangames and anime to have to hold themselves to a higher standard.

Perhaps if we had a hold on the situation, and promoted a certain standard, the anime games that would be permitted through would actually be worth playing.

I understand alot of people on BYOND are teenagers and alot of those kids like anime. Who says that any P.O.S. game of any type people create should be listed on the hub? For the sake of BYOND itself, we need to start upping the standard and removing some of the anime and enforcing a standard of quality for our listed games as well.
If things go well for BYOND and it attracts more developers who make more good games, eventually the site will be able to be more selective about which games are shown. All we can do now is be patient and work on making good games.

An alternative is that BYOND can openly embrace its tendency to attract younger and inexperienced developers. Actual colleges are offering game design courses, so BYOND could try to be a legit tool for introductory game development. This would require the staff to be a little more hands on and it'd still involve some quality control. The point would be to show that kids can make games, not to show that kids like anime.
Forum, login to the pager for a sec if ya would.
I'm posting from my phone so I can't right now, but if you message me I can respond using the web-based pager.

I don't. I'll probably be on the pager in 4 hours or so, but I'll only be on the website until then.
I want to bold another word in what CyberLord said.

Built Your Own Net Dream.
My kokoro wish net dream is to obtain Naruto GOA's source and place my name in the var/list/GM list, along with all of my friends. And like, I'll add it so you can ~donate~ money to me and I might... well... give you some.... benefits. *wink wink* I'll call it LordAndrew's Naruto GOA: Rebirth.

Can I be GM? :D
@LordAndrew

So, If I give you $5, i can start at lvl over nine thousand?
To limit the number of games built around the same concept, am I right? Well, surely enough, from my observations; most Naruto, Dragon Ball, Bleach, Pokémon and so forth are unoriginal. Due to Teka's lack of knowledge in the field of Pokémon, most are edited Storm rips... Naruto's mostly rearranged Davin or Evolution rips, Dragon Ball's simply Universe with a cleaner sense of mapping and interface... And so on.
