Although this is obvious, I don't think it makes much sense to not allow users to log in if they can't connect to the website. Currently, the pager will stop at the "loading live games from the BYOND hub.." page.

In the past, it was possible for a user to log into the pager without having a stable/available connection.
Because our second release date was supposed to be today, I'll be answering the first 20 questions about the game to console you guys.

1 question per person. Nonsense questions will be ignored. I'm only going to answer things that will be informative for the rest of the people interested in playing.
I'm tired of stressing over the release date, and we all know that we won't be able to have a complete game by the first. Of course, we are probably not very far off from our release goal.

So I'm not saying that we're infinitely postponing the release. We're just giving ourselves wiggle room just in case we don't make it.

When we do have everything ready for release, we'll announce it a week prior and have a grand ol' party.

Pre-orders are still available for 5$ on this hub. This is half of the actual subscription fee for when the game is released(which will be 10$), so it's a great deal for anyone who wants to support development and play it when it comes out.

Only subscribers will have access to this game for the first two months it is available, and after that, most features will be subscriber-oriented. Subscriptions last forever, so only pay once and you're set to enjoy the world of Epic:Legend.

The following people will currently be able to access the game when it is released:

Rod5
Purple Orchid
Chance Adamson
Writing a New One
Physician
Neodayton
Wiebman
Forkkie
Diego-Lawliet
Andreyx10
Blazekid
Boxcar
FIREking
Kumorii
Tag.You.Are.Pregnant
Master Bait
Prinster_the_Prinny
Vexxen
XxKateKatexX
Cloud Magic
Neo Berserker
Kaiochao
FantasyBoy81
Redisec
ExPixel

This is for the convenience of our current subscribers. If you think your name should be on this list, contact me and we'll get things sorted out. The people on this list are all the users who have bought or have been gifted subscriptions to Epic or Epic:Legend.

Have a music from our OST. You look famished..

http://puu.sh/2FWHW.ogg

Oh yeah, I'll probably get a new update log going tomorrow. I haven't touched the old one in a while, but I've still been working REALLY hard on the MQ. Most recently pixeled a 160x160 dragon sprite... and other stuff.

tips for managing and leading a team through development

Here's how I manage working with multiple people on a project. This probably won't work for everyone.

1. Be ready to do everything yourself. If you're just an artist, learn to program. If you're a programmer, try dabbling in art. If you're a hubber, learn to GM. This is your game. You're the leader. I can absolutely 100% guarantee you that your project will be discontinued if you rely on other people.(And if you focus on only working with paid team members, your project will take FOREVER to complete.)

2. Only introduce new team members into nonessential roles. For example, here is the current Epic:Legend development team(everybody who has access to the source for development purposes):
-Yut Put: Artist, programmer, level designer, writer, secondary composer, anything else you can think of.
-Blazekid: Lead level designer, mapping the incredibly huge and detailed overworld. Works on his own free time, nonessential(but really appreciated, because he makes extremely notable contributions).
-Kumorii: Dungeon developer. Casually adds dungeons to the game on his own free time. Nonessential, but again, very useful.
-Boxcar: Drew the sand tile and the current gravel tile. Casually contributes art when he feels like it. Nonessential.
-Kaiochao: Reprogrammed the projectile system. Available to help me profile, refactor, and optimize code when I need him. Nonessential.
-Dan Busa: Composer. I can write music, but his is fantastic and much better than what I can do. Nonessential.

Recruit as many people you trust as you can, and put them all in nonessential slots. The team that I have currently is almost exactly what I had hoped it would be. You'll find that people enjoy making casual contributions to your game here and there. When you're making a project as gigantic as E:L, everything helps.

3. Stay in constant communication with people. I'm not saying you should annoy the f*zk out of them, but it's still always good to maintain communication with your team members. I update my team about the most recent additions I've made to the game as frequent as possible. If, for example, Blazekid needed some snowy scenery, I'd draw it up and provide it for him. I always check up on what he's been working on in the overworld, and make any changes that I deem fit to keep the quality under control.

4. Don't work with anybody else until your game is completely playable. Don't even announce it. Shut up and program.
www.byond.com/members/ YutPut?command=view_post&post=1189846&first_unread=1
This is the first post where I officially announce Epic:Legend. This is also the day I linked up with Blazekid to start level development. At that point in time, the game was completely playable. And before that announcement, only three or four people had even seen the game, and this was because it was mandatory for me to do some multi-player testing. Compare this to the average, "oh hey guys im making a big rpg calld epic legend herse my coder and iconner and heres the player base and the first 3 art assets we have. no the game isnt playable but it will be teh best. btw its discontinued and i programmd the interface <3"(have fun finding an announcement post about a long term collaborative game on this website that this summary doesn't describe adequately.)

tl;dr, this is how I prefer to work in teams. Do 99% of it yourself, don't rely on anyone, talk to your team mates, and don't work with anybody else until your game is playable.

I was in a really good mood when he asked me if I had any gloomy fantasy music on hand, so I wrote this in about an hour. It's not very good and I don't hold myself to be any sort of authority on music but I thought it was fun to make and worth sharing.
One of the more annoying things I've noticed while using this pager is that if you log out of the pager(or just wait over time, not sure which) the custom status you've set becomes reset. It's bothersome because I don't like having to retype the same status every single time I log into the pager, and I eventually have come to a point where I just don't bother to write one at all.

I'd rather have it so that once I set my status, it remains that way until I change it again.

(THIS POST WAS MOVED OUT OF THE EPIC:LEGEND FORUM BECAUSE THE FORMER POST WAS NOT VISIBLE DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE HUB IS NOT LISTED)

Going to introduce you guys to this game, bit by bit. As I said with Zen, I believe a picture is worth one thousand words. Time to give you guys some more descriptive pictures!

3/28/13
-Spent the day fixing problems with the object limit. Playtested with my friend sarah for design feedback.
-Quote of the day: "You know, this might actually be one of the most fun games I've ever played, now that I think about it."

It took just as long to design these trees as it did to program them! Each one has twenty perks, carefully designed to fit a wide range of play-styles. Just about any character build possible is achievable through this tree, and quality is not sacrificed for quantity.

3/29/13
-Added 2 new hairstyles, a combover and an emo looking one
-Added some NPCs for something I can't announce
-Fixed a crapload of bugs
-Rewrote the way projectiles fire at angles
-Fixed weapons giving exp when not hitting things
-Fixed small issues in some dungeons
-Added a loading screen to save the server from.. dying
-Added "Brotherhood Armor" and "Brotherhood Hood"
-Fixed some typos in the intro cutscene
-Fixed a MQ bug
-Fixed a problem in a dialogue where FreeKing Zurue is named "Overlord Rayth"
-Added the potential for skill trainers
-Fixed some portals in Kumo's dungeon
-Did some server testing to make sure everything was going well, very pleased with the results
-Pressing 1-0 on the number keys equips magic and spells to favorited hotslots which can be accessed during game-play for ease of use
And other things....
Quote of the day:

3/30/13
-Divided map instancing into 200x200 cells, so it only increments world.maxz once every 25 dungeons generated. This increases game-play speed greatly.
-Refactored a lot of code with the help of Kaiochao
-Optimized mob/Move and the minimap
-Rewrote the dungeon save system to accommodate the new format for dungeon generation
-Entering a dungeon while one was being generated by your party's leader will now provide a message prompting you to wait until the dungeon has completed generation
-Fixed issues regarding the crafting menu
-Projectiles only grant experience if they hit a hostile mob
-Rewrote the trigonometry for the minimap so that it doesn't require sine and cosine, therefore increasing its performance
-Slightly adjusted the angles at which projectiles fire in order to test accuracy(Still needs tweaking)
-Fixed numerous bugs regarding map instancing
-Replaced findtext with == in the minimap update() proc
-Refactored the entire update_overlays() proc so that I can track what's causing it to have cpu drops
-Quote of the Day: "Falcon: better extend that deadline"

Just wandering the area near Fort Shatterpoint, in Grouhl.

3/31/2013
-Drew statue for Tor, god of wisdom, life and the Earth.
-Modified projectiles so... Well. Kaichao modified projectiles so that they had flawless precision
-Crossbows and guns now have a delay time after firing to reload. Longbows and shortbows, however, are fired by being drawn back and then released. Longbows and shortbows fire arrows at a set distance and damage proportionate to how far you drew back your bow.(Thanks to Kaiochao)
-Fixed numerous quest bugs
-Added the 'True Colors' quest, started by talking to the mysterious Fuffi the Rabbit in the Abandoned Lakehouse.(In the rabbit-loving spirit of Easter, no less!)
-Kumorii is working on a new dungeon
-Proliferated forum icons
-Did a lot of playtesting
-Fixed numerous runtime errors which popped up during playtesting(I'm quite certain I'll never see the end of these)
-Added "Abandoned Lakehouse"
-Added option to show/hide head gear
-Kaiochao is now a developer
-Further profiled and optimized code to make the game run as fast as possible
-Standardized the image for keys and notes in the inventory window
-Fixed loot flying through walls
-Added a lute... because.
-Quote of the day:

4/1/2013
-Created a trailer
-Wrote music for the trailer
-Stealth indicators are now shown on your player, so that other people can see them
-Chests now have loot based on each player. You all get the same loot, but you don't have to share it.
-Wearing a guild's armor displays your name as being in that guild
-Modified saving so that it complies with the new chest format
-Fixed frostbeam up
-Extensive playtesting
-Implemented statue of Tor
-Blazekid mapped more of the overworld
