Are you left handed?
Another common problem is scissors. Most of them are ambidextrous, but whenever we grab a pair that are righty only, it can be painful to use them.
So just answer, I'd be happy to know the results.

Mega old? Really? A bit over one year old isn't mega old, just old. Now if this was from 2003, I'd agree with a mega old title.

As a left-handed person, I totally agree with this post. I was raised using the mouse with my right hand (and got so used to it that the left-handed mouse feels awkward).
The scissors are definitely the worst.

It's interesting that you say the mouse is made for the right-handed folk.
I personally use a Wacom drawing tablet, which has a magnetic sensor (or some such) for the pen, but also comes with a mouse that you can just run across the tablet (no wires from the mouse, no batteries!). The mouse is almost symmetrical (there are no indents of any kind; the right button is only slightly smaller than the left). Since I sit at a 45 degree angle towards my desk, with my right side running along the desk (that is, my monitor is at the end of the desk, angled towards the center, and I sit at an angle such that my right arm is on the desk and my left arm is in mid-air while I type), I often find myself actually resting on my right arm (perhaps resting my chin on my bicep or some such) and controlling the mouse with my left hand. Sitting up straight is overrated. :)
Edit: BTW, forgot to mention that I'm right-handed.

Yeah, I've always used the mouse with my right hand. Although I still can't aim as good as some people in first person shooters, I have no problems with it normally. It does leave my good hand free to do fancy footwork in games, though. And console games I have no troubles moving correctly.

I'm a lefty and yes, the scissors >_>
But although I endured the pain, it made me cut neater.
I have to agree with all of what you said. Although I was considered one of few neat writers in my class, trying not to press hard or smudge my work (Which I hardly do now) would be discouraging to me. With the mouse though, I've used my right hand from the beginning.

Fun fact: Lefties have about 10% more connective tissue between the hemispheres of our brains. Makes sense when you think about it; the signals from the logical left brain have to make their way to the right brain in order to operate the left hand.

Lefties may not go to heaven but it's not because they're left handed it's because they believe that the IPU likes veggie pizza instead of Ham and Pineapple like we all know he loves. HETHENS, I say, HETHENS!!!

I know that this one does, but I'm not sure if that's for lack of practice, or for having to use the mouse right-handed...
That actually might be why I dislike the usual keyboard + mouse control of most computer games (I vastly prefer console gaming)

Lefty here!
Obviously most of us use both hands... We wouldn't have two if we didn't have some use for both...lol And in most cases, we unconsciously assign certain tasks to one or the other...
Sometimes, this is driven by the tools we have available, too... For a common example, many lefties use their right hands to cut with scissors, most likely because lefty scissors aren't quite common enough to give us the luxury of taking that path... We force ourselves to learn to cut with our right hands...
So to some degree, we're all ambidextrous/ambisinistrous...
But I think in terms of deciding our actual handedness, the best way to judge is by knowing which side you have the best fine motor control over, and often which side is the strongest (for instance, most people can throw a ball much farther with one hand than the other) The latter is more or less just the result of favoring that side, but it's a sign of which one you do indeed favor...
Because basically, many of the tasks that lefties assign to their right hands (eating, cutting, mouse use) are things that either really don't require the level of control that tasks like writing or drawing do, or they are things that we're forced into by the tools available (I.E. scissors)... And even in some cases, they're simple tasks that we push off on the off-hand, in order to keep the favored hand free for more important tasks...

Yeah, those right handed scissors are horrible.

Unfortunately there's no simple answer to your poll. I write, eat, and use scissors with my left hand, but in most other tasks I'm right-handed. Handedness is actually more of a spectrum.

I was born left handed but switched to my right hand. Why isn't there a category for me?

I write with my left hand most comfortably and I do pretty much everything else with my right hand. I can write somewhat with my right hand, but it feels awkward and cramps easily.
