I know youve all been waiting for this.. Its the 3D space system I've been blabing about the last um... year... all wraped up in an RP (any out of charictar chatting is to be done with the OOC command. You are to play a role here, choose your race and class wisely.) enforced starwars game!

(do not make chars with starwars or common names. You must make your name from your imagination)

So here it is folks.. just a click away!

telnet://swrip.betterbox.net

Now, this isent MY version.. but the byond version is reaching its final stages! And if enogh of you show up.. then im going to be forced to post the sorce code!!! I hope to see you there!

OOC: Tellem Jobe sent ya.. you might get specal treatment ;P

I just took a glance at the MUD. Upon seeing the greeting screen, it was fairly obvious that the MUD is an SWR (distant derivative of Diku).

These forums are for BYOND-created games/demos/libraries/etc, not an advertising area for SWR MUDs. If you want to advertise, try The Mud Connector.

whats SWR?

Star Wars Rip, I believe the deacronization is. It's an open-source MUD codebase. Check out the FAQ on The Mud Connector for information about what MUDs are.

Like i said, This one is not my system.

But if enogh BYONDers show interest here then i will be forced to post the BYOND version of the space code(havent quite worked out launch and land yet becase enter exit ship gets buggy..) If few few people show up then ill finish the BYOND game and find a host... But if a large number of people show up and are actually interested then i will gladly post the code in a library.
In response to Dession
It means Star Wars Reality.. its a open source codebase... but this is SWRIP witch means "Star Wars Rise In Power". It is closed source and has many many features and races that an SWR dose not... This is what i based the coding of my graphical SWRIP on.. and like i said.. if anyone shows interest ill release the code.

Oh the irony! ;-D

But seriously, folks. This is a forum for finished (or mostly finished) BYOND creations; not for advertising some random MUD and saying you're just starting to make a BYOND version.

But seriously... i have been working on the BYOND version for a full YEAR now.. and its ready for beta if i had a host... If you would READ befor you CRITASIZE.. anyhow im useing the MUD version i ported to code from to see if how well BYONDers can cope with an RP enforced environment!

Is that some merge of the words "Critter" and "Size"? I personally doubt that Crispy is a really little guy the size of a little critter, and I doubt even more that you know how tall he is.

Or is it a merge between "Critical" and "A-size" as in "A-size peice of paper". I don't quite understand how, on an internet forum where NO paper is involved, there is a critical paper size.

~Ease~

Then you should have posted when you DID have a host. I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but nobody cares about some random guy's random game until they can actually see it.

If you would READ befor you CRITASIZE..

It's "criticize", FYI.

Wouldn't it be a more reliable test if you used a BYOND version for that? Considering that most BYONDers would only know how to connect to a MUD if they'd played MUDs before, which would make it more likely (although by no means certain, granted) that they'd played in an RP enforced environment.

In any case, most BYONDers aren't that good at RP-enforced situations... just look at all the DBZ rips. There are exceptions, of course, but the RP players are in a minority. (Incidentally, I'm terrible at RP-enforced games, simply because ultimately there's not much to do that I'm interested in but chat, and OOC chat is much more fun than RP chat in my opinion. =) )

I can host if you'd like, but only the BYOND beta. I'm not hosting a MUD.

This is one big mistake a lot of BYOND developers make. You don't have to aim your game at BYONDers. If BYONDers don't handle RP enforced MUD's well then go find a group of people who do.
The HUB is a great tool when it comes to finding players, but it's not your only tool. Heck, DBZ probably only overflowing here because the DBZers brag about their 1337 programming skillz in evrey DBZ community they can find =P

Quite right...

News travels among us extremely fast... Perhaps faster than any other online community... Of course, it helps that ours is one of the (if not the) largest fan communities online...

So once word got out that a DBZ game was made on this system, it undoubtedly spread to a huge number of us within a few days... And it only grew exponentially from there (they told ten frineds, and they told ten friends, etc)...

In fact, a post in my Yahoo! DBZ club (now a group) is what brought me here in the first place...

And the funny thing there is that we disallow advertisements in our club, and that initial post was seen as one, and deleted on sight...lol But, I decided to check it out before it was dumped, and that's how I came here...

But yeah, the point is that this community is filled with so many DBZers because we're the only ones who have done any effective outside advertising... If the rest of you want to draw in your kind of players, you're going to have to try harder...lol

I certainly intend to, just as soon as Dantom stops losing money per new player. =P
In response to Crispy
Yeah, that point popped into my head as I was typing that, but I didn't want to draw attention to the fact that the rapid influx of DBZ fans had yet another negative effect...lol
In response to Crispy
You know, they could probably cut down on the losses by making you have to wait 20 days between activating your portfolio and being able to create HUB entries.
Sort of like having free developer licenses, but with a cooling off period.
In response to DarkView
I'm all for their current plan, which is (as far as I know) to keep BYOND free and charge percentages of the money developers make using BYOND's hub and commerce system. (This, of course, doesn't prevent people from selling their BYOND games outside of the hub system.)

jobe babbled:

why would you be forced into doing anything? you should do it beause you want to.

and since this *does not* belong in Creations (which refers to BYOND-related material), it goes to Off-Topic for the better enjoyment of all!
