You, sir, are a genius. Well said.

For Foomer

Foomer, I got your e-mail. This is the new interface I've been playing around with:
Screenie

There are a couple things.
1. Prior to 413/414 there was no network delay output in the puzzle select window. I just have to figure out how to get rid of it now.

2. In the interface editor I have the default window size set so it doesn't fill the screen, but every time I start the game it forces it full screen. (That's the blank at the bottom that I DON'T want.) I got it to not do it once, but I don't know how I did it. It's really annoying.

3. There's too much empty space in the score box in the upper right.

Ideally I want the main window to not be resizable and not let people maximize it either. I can't figure out a good way to structure things full screen. That would require a background image and my art skills are terrible.

Maybe I'll just let you make a new one.

I've changed my mind. I'm going to have the puzzle selector popup separately and people can mouseover links to get a puzzle solution preview with their best score and click on links to bring them to that puzzle.

You can do what you'd like. I just see a lot of cool games with no interface that could be made over to be much more impressive.

The interface looks good!

That's due to the output of system messages to the default window. You can get rid of that by making the main window non-default (although you wouldn't be able to use the usr << "text" notation). That said, I'm leaning towards changing it (in 415) to only output error messages to the default, because these status messages aren't too helpful.

Yeah, I wanted the dimensions to be just enough to only display what I have now. I did it once, but now it's not letting me do it again.

I was reading Lummox's article and the child stuff still isn't sinking in. Maybe I just need to play around with some things more.

Right now it's as big as it is to allow for the biggest molecule without scrolling the window. It's just a browser window with some stuff to center the picture in the window. I can scale the pictures dynamically to make them whatever size I want.

I think I'm just being anal as usual about stuff. I'm going to stick to this, get rid of the alert() and replace it with a real window and try to figure out how I can elegantly design a custom puzzle maker and have it work with how the game works. Hmm....

Cool. I was just considering building my own version of your Blocker game since you weren't responding and it looked like something fun to fiddle with.

Were you hoping for an interface that only takes up a set size, like 500x400, for example? Which you just move around on the screen to wherever you want and don't worry about trying to make it fit?

I'm figuring out with my most recent interface attempt that you can achieve a lot with child elements and swapping windows in and out, so that you don't need everything displayed unless you want it displayed. Its like the items menu on a Zelda game - just swap back and forth from the map to the items. You could do something like that for the level selection, since its not needed unless you want to change levels.

The score and the solution you'd probably want displayed on the front page, though. I'm not sure how your solution is displayed but it might be worthwhile to squash it down a little.

You say there's too much space in the score box - I think if you resize the atoms in the solution box to remove horizontal space from the score section, then you should be able to make up for the rest by making the score more vertically inclined and filling the space with extra graphics. :P

If you're into the small window look, resizing the game map to 24x24 tiles can give it a cool, "not a BYOND game" feel.
