I have now decided to create a thread to keep track of any games gone permanently free or any promotions that make the game freely available until a certain date or time.

To start it off, I would like to make mention that Mount & Blade is freely available for 48 hours on GOG.com @ http://www.gog.com. Not only that, you also can grab The Witcher II Assassin's King Extended Edition (along with a movie) for free by collecting 7 stamps (by visiting the website each day, though you might be able to collect those you missed until the end of the fall sale).

Anymore freebies going on (either permanent or temporarily), feel free to post here.
There is now a free giveaway available for 48 hours on GOG.com @ http://www.gog.com. That game is Age of Wonders for those who are interested.

This one is a first come, first serve styled giveaway. That means there are 250,000 copies being given out.
SimCity 2000 Special Edition (DOS Version) is available freely on EA's Origin for a limited time. Currently unknown of what date it will end.

Available On The House: https://www.origin.com/en-us/store/free-games/on-the-house (Accessible through the Origin Client as well.)
Theme Hospital (DOS Version) is available freely on EA's Origin for a limited time. As stated, currently unknown of what date it will end. Look at the previous post for the link.

Also, Card City Nights and Escape from the Aliens in Outer Space are available for free through Humble Bundle. Link: https://www.humblebundle.com

Edit: It appears that Escape from the Aliens in Outer Space is only printable. Probably still a fun game to play at home though. :P
Oooh bootleg steam.
Syndicate is available freely on EA's Origin for a limited time as part of the On The House promotion. Currently no timeframe of when it will end.
Ultima VIII: Pagan is now available freely on EA's Origin for a limited time as part of the On The House promotion. Yet another unknown timeframe of when this one will end.
Bandock, I'm going to have to ask you to start providing more in-depth promotion updates. I mean, "unknown timeframe" just doesn't cut it anymore. I'm not paying you to tell me you "don't know". That's not how this works.

Get your act together and find out the timeframes or I'll get someone in here who can. Like Eugene for instance.

Well, you got to blame EA on this one. For a while there, they used to give exact dates when these promotions were supposed to expire. Unfortunately, they stopped doing that and now there is no determined timeframe. :P

Best estimate I could give is about a month or two.
*Cough* pirate bay.

We're nearing the end of the month, so now would be a good time to get your free games if you have an Xbox Live Gold account. Games available in April:

Note that while you can "purchase" the free games online and push them to your console remotely, (if I remember correctly) the Xbox One games need to be downloaded during this month in order to be valid. Additionally, some regions may have different titles available.

May's titles should be Castle Storm: Definitive Edition (XB1), Pool Nation FX (XB1), Mafia II (360), and Formula 1 2013 (360).
Contraption Maker is available freely for those who haven't heard of the free promotion: http://contraptionmaker.com/

Remember to grab it by May 25th, 2015 for any budding fans who enjoyed The Incredible Machine (which happened to be made by developers who worked on the same game).

This maybe a bit late, but you can still grab it (since I was able to not long ago from this post).
Ultima4 is free on gog.com too. It may be before this community's time, but it's a part of my childhood, and I'm dead certain part of Dan and Tom's inspiration to make BYOND.

(BONUS: It's way better than Ultima VIII)

I have not played Ultima VIII, but I definitely remember reading about how bad it was. This was before I posted a mention of it being free. Ultima IV is definitely fun though. I remember playing the DOS version that was included with the October 1997 issue of Computer Gaming World, though I also remember that we owned the Amiga copy of it.

Not only that, but also four other free games were included. That includes Wasteland. :D (Was also included with the November 1996 issue).
It was the first Ultima that was made under EA's whips. EA rushed production by easily three to six months, and less than half the game was completed at launch. It's a fantastic shell of a game, but that's all it is. A fantastic shell. By today's standards, I'm sure it's great if you compare it to the 5-year-long "early access" games that are cropping up at full price.

Ultima IV is unique. It has no final boss, and no major antagonists. It's a game purely about exploration and philosophy. It's a true masterpiece, and its sequel, Ultima V is unique for its atmosphere. I can't really go into it, but holy crap, V really did things right when it came to philosophy and creating a very believable environment.
EA brought a C&D to fan-made Ultima 4 games. There used to be people who would emulate the game in flash.
Ultima IV and VII are my, and Richard Garriott's favorites.
Thinking about Ultima, I remember playing with Adventure Creation Kit (which was inspired by Adventure Construction Set from EA, which could've inspired DUNG/BYOND).

For a while there, new releases were being made considering it being the first time in years.

Battle Realms can be acquired freely and kept forever from GOG.com @ http://www.gog.com within 48 hours (till June 11th for most places).
Zuma's Revenge is now available freely as an On The House promotion for a limited time on EA's Origin. Before anyone asks again, it seems to be that EA has yet again decided to not declare any timeframe.
