So, basically I have decided to make a RTS.

The game has a simple objective, win by destroying the enemy.
The difference is, each unit on a team is a player. Due to this, combat will be somewhat more action based than typical RTS games.

The game will support 2-4 teams fighting it out.
Each team will have a leader. The leader can use resources to build or upgrade structures, which in turn give team mates bonuses or advantages.

Players themselves have to gather said resources off of the map. Gold, stone or wood. There is a limited amount, and players can also carry a limited amount before needing to go back to base to deposit them.

To make things worse, players themselves need to use resources if they die and want to respawn. 1 of each resource.
Meaning a potential way of winning the game is killing off the enemy team and causing them to lose all their resources.

The game will initially have 30 units to pick from. Since players are controlling the units, they will have slightly more importance than your average RTS grunt.
Each unit more or less only has 3 stats. Hp, damage and defence. There is no RPG like elements, those stats are fixed and permenant (buildings can upgrade them).
All units also have 4 abilities. Since there is no MP, all abilities are based on a cooldown before they can be used again.

I am drawing all of the art for the game, and it is going to have a lighter, more comical tone to it.

That is an example of the art I have done at the moment (I really dislike drawing). You can see 3 of the units, Murderer, Alchemist and Assassin.
Other classes will include things like Cyberbards, Gamblers, Vikings, and possibly even something half serious like typical tank, dps and healer roles.

Expecting the game to be reading in possibly a month or so. At least playable within that time.

The question is, what sort of stuff do you like/dislike in RTS games?
Sounds like War of Heroes, but without RPG elements.

Not really. It is a RTS game, gathering resources and building a base will have a significant effect on how well your team preforms in the game.

If you have lots of melee fighters, your leader can build a building that increases the damage they deal.
They can build buildings that allow you to regenerate health faster while around it.
Towers to defend the base and so on.
A unit with a base with all buildings and all upgraded is much, much stronger than a unit without.
Vikings have 350 Hp, deal 45-65 damage and have 10% damage reduction without buildings.
With buildings Vikings and all fully upgraded, Vikings have 450 Hp, deal 65-85 damage and have 20% damage reduction.
If your leader does not build and upgrade buildings, you will end up losing.

Also, a lot of units in the game specialize in doing things that were not possible in War of Heroes.

The Engineer can build turrets to attack, walls to help defend areas, and can fix or fortify buildings.
Fixing buildings is highly useful, as only engineers can do it (other than leaders, but that costs resources).

A spy can disguise themselves as enemies. They can also analyze enemy players and tell their team about them, they can even analyze the enemies base and tell their team what they are fighting against. Stuff like what buildings, resources and units they have.
If the spy gets caught, they can commit suicide, causing them to drop no resources and allowing them to respawn with no cost.

Prospectors are useless at fighting. But they can gather resources faster than other units, hold more and do not drop them if they die.

Thieves on the other hand, can steal resources off of players and are good at escaping with them.

The Demolisher is a half decent fighter. But they specialize at destroying enemy buildings. They do it faster and easier than any other class.

Warlock is another class with poor combat abilities.
But they are excellent at setting up portals and teleporting. Being able to teleport resources back to your base instantly will be a massive help in the game.

Some units have entirely combat oriented roles. Sniper is good at killing stuff and has a very long range to attack from. Defenders are excellent tanks. Viking is your average high damage melee warrior. Cleric is your designated healer and so on.

I say stop trying to think of many and keep your focus on one.

That's all I have to say.

My fortune cookie said "Pleasant meeting with old friend". But what does that have to do with anything?
What does it?
