The Saga of Dragon Warrior Online


Dragon Warrior Online is the original BYOND Dragon Warrior game, and also the most true to the NES games that inspired it. Version 1.50 of the game was released in the Spring of 2002, and was hosted by Cable Monkey until the end of 2004. This version is a complete game, but is nowhere near as polished or true to the original NES games as its successor, DWO v1.90. Despite v1.50’s age, it is still a fun, unique game that is worth checking out.

Version 1.90 of DWO was in development for 2 years, and was eventually cancelled due to a variety of setbacks and the sheer size of the project. That said, the unfinished game is one of the most polished and in-depth games on BYOND. It plays almost exactly like Dragon Warrior 4 for the NES, and features in-game movies, four player parties, and support for NPC party members. A group of 4 players adventuring together can reach the end of v1.90 in about 15-20 hours.
