How hilarious
There are a few things on BYOND that are excessively annoying:
1) Inexperienced, unjust GMs--
They exert their tyranny into everything and insist they are justified in their decisions despite the fact that they rarely are. It is absurd how little respect they have for the opinions of those who have been moderating games on this little network for the better part of a decade.
The new-age moderators we are getting are increasingly abusive and ignorant as to how to handle most situations effectively. That is not to say that ALL of them fit this rigid and obviously biased paradigm, but it has been my experience that far too many GMs do, and that is a serious problem.
2) Pathetic, amoral game owners--
Opinionated, generally unwise game owners nowadays plague BYOND, particularly within the Anime Guild. They either do little to improve their games, which are often made of ripped coding and icons of other, more popular games or they add rank benefits to skew the system massively off-kilter [ala Birth of the Legendary Shinobi by Goditz a year or so ago.]
Then you have the truly sad individuals who illegally garner money for copyrighted materials left and right and somehow get off the hook most of the time. The best known example would be Masterdan, owner of Naruto: Grand Online Adventure, who has used copyrighted Dragon Ball Z and Naruto material to effectively swindle players out of an excess of 2000-3000 USD or more since 2004 while BYOND Administration only jumped on his case about it a couple of times and never actually ceased it. He claims donations are what he attracts; however, an estimation of between 90 and 95 percent of the money he has made from BYONDers was for in-game material, not donations.
Charging players a small amount to get some form of bonus in-game is one thing, but using others' copyrighted material to do that is ridiculous.
On a quick note, these owners frequently hold themselves in far higher regard than they should, claiming superiority when they cannot or have not made a game of long-time fame that is still superbly fun even after years of playing it [for example, Skysaw's (with Nadrew) My Life as a Spy] though this is all based on personal opinion and is clearly not a static belief.
3) Those who lack the capacity to put up a well-thought, logical argument--
The infrequency of finding someone who is not only capable of arguing well, but has the knowledge to do so properly on a myriad of controversial matters is becoming amazingly bothersome [we again use the Anime Guild as the example.] In the past it was easy to enter a game, even an anime game, and discuss serious topics without people inventing sources or citing ridiculous notions as solid fact-- now... that is the common thing to do.
It hurts my very soul, kids. Read a damn book.
