Again the long project took center stage this week, but after a lost day Wednesday (unavoidable due to family obligations) I had to pivot and get something done with the software.
Things are progressing with the big project, but unfortunately with the way the rest of this month lays out, I can't foresee the project ending until early September. This pisses me off a bit because it's holding back 516 from beta and it's also costing me money. But it can't be helped. If June and July had gone a lot better I think I'd probably be done by now, but having things reach the critical point in the next couple of weeks is unacceptable. At least this gives me more time to be sure it's done right, and tis way I can keep up with maintenance tasks as we get there, and maybe sneak something else into 516.
For a little more clarity: I could put 516 into beta right now, at least after testing compilation on Linux. But the deluge of bug reports that would come from this, despite the extended alpha ironing out a lot of problems, is not something I can deal with at this stage. It's entirely more sensible to wait.
So anyway on more upbeat news, I got the outline filter change I had planned for 515 in place, and next up on my list (quite possibly this afternoon) I'm gonna work on some other minor additions that have been suggested. This has also led me down some paths for ideas that will lead into render overhaul stuff in the future, so that's pretty good.
Thank you to all the BYOND Members and other regular supporters who make this work possible. I'm working hard to bring you some great stuff.
Please don't take it as hypocrisy when I mention that the Fair begins next week. Yes, I'm going to take some time off to enjoy the Fair despite the project delays, because holy crap do I need the mental recharge. But we're talking about a day here, a day there, so nothing substantial. But in between those days I'll be at the usual grind, and getting ready for big events ahead. In the meantime keep calm and mak gam!

The BYOND software itself is written in the C++ programming language, but games made with BYOND are written with its proprietary programming language: DM.
Python is another programming language, but it is separate from BYOND and the software cannot interpret or compile it. |
