BYOND Build Number: 458.1050
Operating System: Vista 32bit
Video/Graphics Card: Radeon Go 7600
Game Hub/Link: All games.
Internet Connection Type: Cable, 7.5down, 0.5up capped.
Firewalls/Routers: Linksys Wireless router, WRT54G2

Problem Description:
In all BYOND games I try to play, I have lag spikes quite often, which doesn't allow me to move, speak, etc. for up to 1 minute on occasions. It also sometimes logs me out. This doesn't occur in other games at all, only BYOND games.
Howwweverrrr, what gets me is, I can see what everyone else is doing, but I appear to be frozen.
In an attempt to combat the problem, I did all the updates, assigned a port to my pager and forwarded it on my router, and forwarded the ports of the games I play. No change.
I only just moved house, and I'm pretty sure I didn't experience these problems at my old place on this computer.
When downloading the BYOND client through BYOND.com during one of these spikes, the speed was at about 30KB/s. I got my friend to attempt the download at the same time, and he got about 700KB/s. I usually get at least 500KB/s from every other website.
My only guess is that somehow the route between my computer and BYOND's servers is *bad*? I dunno. If anyone could help me solve this problem, it'd be muchly appreciated.

*P.S*. I've tried directly connecting my computer to the modem, instead of the router.

Steps to Reproduce Problem:
I join a game and wait.

Could you provide a short list of examples where you suffer these kind of problems (e.g. game servers that you played on) including the ping values for these servers?
If you're looking at the connection details for the wireless router, how much signal strength can you muster in average and on minimum?
How frequently do you get these spikes (in minutes/hours)?

The problem occurs whether I am connected through my router or direct to my modem.
It occurs in all servers I've tested, which is at least 5. Including SS13, Dungeon Master, a Harry Potter fan game... <.<
In regard to latencys, it's the same story all round. Fluctuating pings. For example, these were taken 10 seconds apart, on the Harry Potter game:
Round trip ping-pong took 0.08 seconds.
Round trip ping-pong took 0.98 seconds.
Round trip ping-pong took 0.085 seconds.
Round trip ping-pong took 1.7 seconds.
Round trip ping-pong took 0.35 seconds.
And these on Android Data's SS13 server:
Round trip ping-pong took 0.35 seconds.
Round trip ping-pong took 0.41 seconds.
Round trip ping-pong took 1.3 seconds.
Round trip ping-pong took 0.21 seconds.

If you ping the server directly (in a DOS shell), do the results reflect the BYOND pings?
In response to Schnitzelnagler
Seemingly no.

Round trip ping-pong took 0.69 seconds.
Round trip ping-pong took 1 seconds.
Round trip ping-pong took 0.078 seconds.
Round trip ping-pong took 0.64 seconds.

Could you compile all the relevant data (the compared ping statistics, links to some servers that you tried, the time between the lag spikes and the requested information in the template) and file a bug report, or would you rather have me do that under your name?
In response to Schnitzelnagler
Ooh, it'd be swell if you could that for me please. I'm not 100% sure on what's different about my situation than others, that's all.

Thanks for all the help.
In response to Murrawhip
Sure, no problem.
For the sake of debugging, could you please try to join Chatters and see if you're experiencing similar lag spikes?

Thank you in advance.

Is the problem persistent through clearing the cache and restoring the configuration?
In response to Schnitzelnagler
My initial belief is that it has gotten better after doing this... The pings close to 1 second are bothersome, though.

I'll leave it awhile, and get back to you whether it has improved or not.

Roger.
When you have gathered more data, I'm going to file the bug report for Lummox JR/Tom.
In response to Schnitzelnagler
Okay I'm convinced that the results I was getting after the cache purge were a coincidence.
