could someone point me into the directions as to where i might find out how do make it so a map is shaded and that aroun the player it isn't i have seen it done(cant remember where) and i woudl like to do this for like a cave etc . . .

Try looking at the dithered transparencies lib (not sure if thats what you want). Or just multiply the rgb by however much (like *.5)
