Some people complain about the limit at the icon size at which icons can be edited...My idea is this, why don't you use microsoft paint(or paint.net since argued upon that microsoft paint didnt support alpha transparency) as an external program that auto opens icons that are larger than 32x32(since that is the limit at which byond allows for editing) that you double clicked on and when you save it...the image auto saves to the location at which you open the icon..like overwriting the icon with the new icon. This can be a temp feature so that it can be a work around to what byond currently can handle or can be full feature.

Other ideas: Posibility of switching icon editor into a seperate window or program so to allow more stuff into the editor

One of the catches I can see is Microsoft Paint does not support alpha transparency, one of BYOND's big 4.0 additions.

What about support with paint.net...like if you download paint.net...byond allows it to auto open that icon...else it does what byond usually does..cannot edit higher than 32x32

Well the catch with that comes when people turn round and go "Why not Photoshop?", "Why not the GIMP?", "Why not program X?" and so on. All you are really doing is saving the developer a few clicks.

Well, you see, not everyone has Paint.NET, so you'd need to have access to a program everyone has or it is just wasted processing. This idea also ties development into the Windows platform, which may be the opposite of what they're trying to do.

And then you have the dilemma Stephen presented.

However, it would be nice to have an image editor that supported larger than 32x32 BYOND icons while knowing about icon_states, frames, and such. Either a slightly more powerful one within DreamDaemon, or maybe some sort of plugin for one of the free graphics programs out there.

Nobody has disagreed with that since it was suggested, but most people would rather have greater optimization and better stability. The feature will be implemented in due time, until then there's always GIMP.
