What makes Game Maker games better than BYOND games?

vs.
This is a question that has been lingering in the back of my mine for a few days. Of course, I'm not talking about Game Maker games as a whole, but, those which have gained notable attention. You can easily compare the best of GM and the best of BYOND, then claim that GM has BYOND beat. I came across a few questions:

Is Game Maker just a better engine to use?
a. It basically allows for standalone games
b. You can easily switch from tile to pixel movement
c. While 'programming', you can either use the drag and drop feature or the GML language
d. You can obviously make a faster pace game on GM than on BYOND

Is the Game Maker community better?
a. The community actually supports new and unique games
b. It seems as if the GM community is more serious when it comes to making games
c. GM supposedly attracts great artist

Now, I know BYOND has some advantages such as the built in networking and a hub system. The hub system eliminates having to create a master server which displays servers currently online.

Perhaps BYOND just needs that one game that gains attention outside of this small community. That way, people will see BYOND is capable of making "good" games. Or perhaps, BYOND games should stay within this community and if you are serious about game development, you should move on?

Games I Can See on BYOND

Outside of BYOND, this site and engine has a reputation of being something for kids. Either from the countless anime games being "made" or due to lack of quality games that exist, there is not much respect the indie community is giving BYOND.

Now, there are a few games that I enjoy that I can see on BYOND.

Iji

This is personally one of my favorites. It is a 2D platformer similar to System Shock 2. You be Iji, a girl enhanced with nanotechnology, trying to defend her planet. This game is quite difficult with a nice range of weapons to use, along with computer "hacking".

I hear pixel movement is possible with BYOND, although, it is quite slow. But I still believe BYOND is capable of creating a game similar, or a bit smaller. Of course though, with a lot less action.

Seiklus

Seiklus is a puzzle platformer that is based on exploration. This game is very basic, no dialog and no plot is stated. It also has no weapons or violence but there are enemies, but they only set you back. This means, you cannot die.

This game is very basic, yet fun; it has won numerous awards and has been praised by many within the gaming industry. Now, I can easily see this type of game on BYOND. There isn't much action; so hopefully, the game wouldn't be too slow.

Spelunky

This is another one of my favorites, like the others listed, it is a platformer. It is an action adventure cave crawler where you search for treasure, saving a damsel in distress, and trying to dodge traps.

Similar to Iji, I think making a game exactly like this while using BYOND may be difficult. But I can easily see a game quite similar to it.

Pixel Movement Demos:
(I didn't test these demos out since I don't want to install BYOND. But I've seen pictures and heard good things about these demos)
